The present lighthouse was built in 1867 and is on the site of the first commissioned lighthouse along the Great Lakes in the United States. The former keeper's house is separate and serves as a private residence. The light at the top of the tower functions but is not an active aid to navigation. Public admission is available, and group tours are available with advance notice.
May and October: Open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
June - September: Open Fridays through Mondays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Closed November through April
Grounds are open from dawn to dusk year-round.
