Exploring Erie’s Bayfront District: A One-Day Guide
Friday Jan 31st, 2025
Set between the shores of Presque Isle Bay and downtown, Erie’s Bayfront Region is its most recognizable region. The iconic Bicentennial Tower serves as the central point of the region. Surrounding it, you’ll find bustling nightlife, entertainment, and dining options, all offered alongside some of the best waterfront views Erie has to offer.
Morning
When you wake up in an area as beautiful as Erie's Bayfront, it's best to start slow. Soak in the views by taking your coffee for a walk along the water. The Bayfront Connector Trail is a nearly nine mile paved trail that starts at Frontier Park and continues east to Penn State Behrend. It passes marinas and waterfront homes, with the Bicentennial Tower central to the trail. Take the trail up the bluffs to Bayview Park to get a photo with the Erie sign.
Afternoon
Erie played a pivotal role in the War of 1812 due to its position on the Great lakes, and today, Erie’s nautical past is etched all along the bayfront. Explore historical markers surrounding Dobbins Landing to discover notable ways in which Erie contributed to history - including one commemorating the creation of the "Don't Give Up the Flag" ship, and dedicated to the man who came up with the Wind Chill Index. Take the elevator (or climb!) to the top of the iconic Bicentennial Tower to take in views of Lake Erie. After, head for lunch on the water. The Perch Sandwich at The Cove and the selection of street tacos at Pier 6 are standout favorites.
Evening
Wind down after dark at Oliver's Beer Garden and Oliver's Mini Golf, a waterfront spot that serves up quintessential Erie summer vibes. Gather with friends under a string of lights to listen to live music, food from their onsite food truck, and a signature cocktail. You'll still be able to hear the band from the 18-hole mini golf course on the property.
