From waterfront celebrations to new attractions and can’t-miss festivals, there are exciting things ahead in Erie. The coming months are filled with opportunities to explore, celebrate, and enjoy everything our region has to offer. Here are eight things to look forward to in Erie.

1. The U.S. Brig Niagara Returns to Erie

   Erie’s flagship will return to Erie in July to kick off America250 celebrations in her home port, following two years away. A celebratory sail will welcome her into Presque Isle Bay on July 2. She’ll remain part of a weekend full of Independence Day festivities and will remain in Erie for day sails and deck tours through the summer and early fall.
   
   

2. America250 Events Across the County

   In 2026, America will honor the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with events and commemorations around the country. Join in some of the festivities in Erie, where concerts, fireworks, and exhibits showcasing the life and events of the last 250 years in America are being planned now. 3. New Rides at Waldameer & Water World

   A five-person raft slide is Waldameer & Water World’s new addition for 2026. The Presque Isle Plunge will feature a giant drop into a vertical wave-shaped wall. Waldameer is also bringing back a fan favorite, Paratrooper! The new and improved Paratropper will be freshly painted, have fun LED lighting, and will be located next to Steel Dragon.
   
   

4. Erie’s Summer Events Calendar

   Erie’s event calendar is packed all year, but summer is when the region really shows off with cultural festivals, waterfront stages, and festivals that bring the whole community together. The 38^th Annual Panegyri Greek Festival takes place each summer. From July 10-11, stop by Erie’s largest heritage festival to enjoy authentic cuisine, music and dance performances. A must try is their lamb gyro and homemade baklava. Sol Fest is back at Liberty Park for its 4^th year promoting the celebration of mind, body and soul. This one-day event on June 20 will include wellness workshops, such as yoga, meditation, and immersive sound journeys. At the vendor village, find sustainable art and healthy meals. CelebrateErie remains one of the region’s signature summer festivals, with headliners typically announced in the spring. In previous years, performers have included Jimmy Eat World, Ja Rule, and Russell Dickerson. These events are just a few of the annual favorites that draw visitors to Erie each summer. 5. Checking out a New Restaurant

   Erie is no stranger to delicious food, and there have been some great new additions to Downtown Erie. At the end of 2025, Empanissah’s opened in Downtown Erie on North Park Row. Their menu features a variety of empanadas with Puerto Rican, Dominican and American fusion. The Chipotle Chicken empanada is a crowd favorite. 
   
   

6. A Relaxing Day at the Beach

   When you travel to Erie, a beach day at Presque Isle State Park is essential. With miles of sandy shoreline and some of the best sunsets on Lake Erie (and anywhere!) it’s the perfect place to soak up summer. Pack a picnic, a beach read, and your favorite chair for a day at Beach 10, one of the park’s most expansive sandy beaches. When you’re done, treat yourself to a classic Erie favorite, an orange-vanilla twist from Sara’s, or stop at the Erie Visitor Center at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center for ideas of other places to explore. Both are located at the park’s entrance.
   
   

7. New Flights at Erie International Airport

   Getting to Erie for conventions, business, or anything else is about to get even easier. Beginning this summer, American Airlines and United Airlines will launch four new daily flights to Chicago O’Hare, giving travelers more flexibility and smoother connections. With expanded service and booking already available, planning your next trip to Erie is about to be a whole lot simpler.
   
   

8. Fall Birding at Presque Isle State Park

   Autumn brings quieter conditions and a wide variety of bird species to Presque Isle, making it an ideal time to try your hand at birding. With miles of trails and several well-known viewing areas, such as Dead Pond Trail, Pine Tree Trail and Leo’s Landing, Presque Isle State Park is one of the top destinations in the state for experiencing the fall migration.
